Safety & Contraindications

As with any cosmetic procedure, temporary side effects may occur, including redness, mild swelling, tenderness, or skin irritation in the treated area. These reactions are normal and typically resolve within a few hours to a few days. Following your aftercare instructions is the best way to support healing and minimize the risk of irritation.

Treatment may need to be postponed if you have an active infection, certain skin conditions in the treatment area, or other health concerns that could affect healing. If you are pregnant or have a medical condition that may impact treatment, please discuss it during your consultation so we can determine whether electrolysis is appropriate for you.

Skin Conditions

Electrologists are not licensed to diagnose skin conditions. If you have an unfamiliar lesion, mole, or skin condition in the treatment area, a written clearance from your healthcare provider may be required before treatment can begin.

For your safety and the safety of others, treatment will not be performed over areas affected by contagious skin conditions, including:

• Active herpes simplex (cold sores or fever blisters)

• Impetigo

• Ringworm or other fungal infections

• Parasitic skin infections

• Active folliculitis

Clients with psoriasis or eczema may still be treated, as these conditions are not contagious. However, areas experiencing an active flare-up or inflammation will be avoided, as they may be more sensitive to treatment.

Electrolysis is the only FDA-recognized method of permanent hair removal. Other hair removal methods, such as laser hair removal, waxing, shaving, and threading, provide temporary hair reduction or removal and require ongoing maintenance.
