I Almost Ignored the Idea That Changed My Life
It’s funny how one random conversation can completely change the direction of your life.
Back in Fall 2022, a coworker, who would eventually become my friend and mentor, mentioned electrolysis to me and suggested I look into becoming an electrologist.
My response was basically, “Hmm…okay, I’ll look into it.”
I did not look into it. 😂
I knew absolutely nothing about electrolysis, and at the time, I wasn’t seriously thinking about changing careers. So I went right back to life as usual.
By January 2023, she had started electrology school without me. As she should have, because clearly I wasn’t moving fast enough.
March 2023 hit, and I was gut punched—a denied promotion. What?! I’m like one of the best, but OK… I was angry, disappointed…I was pissed. Talk about a reality check! I started questioning my whole career path, thinking, "Is this really where I'm meant to be?" I knew one thing for sure—I didn’t want to be somewhere that left me feeling unvalued. For years, I felt the need to get back to patient-centered work, but nursing school wasn't calling my name. I dreamed of something more, something where I could be my own boss and make a real difference.
Then, July 2023 came along, I was at what I thought was rock bottom at work. I was miserable and contemplated leaving KP all together, but then what would I do. This is all I’ve known for the last 18 years. But you know what they say about hitting rock bottom? It's the perfect foundation for a comeback.
And then I remembered that conversation about electrolysis.
This time, I actually looked into it.
And here we are.
What started as a suggestion I almost ignored became Rooted Electrolysis.
The transition definitely didn’t happen overnight. And I don’t think every bad day at work means it’s time to quit your job. 😂 But I do think sometimes disappointment has a way of making you reconsider things you’ve gotten a little too comfortable accepting.
That denied promotion felt terrible at the time.
Looking back? It might have been exactly the push I needed.
Funny how life works.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Rooted, booked an appointment, referred someone, shared a post, left a review, encouraged me, or simply watched this little idea turn into something real.
I’m really glad I finally “looked into it.”
